Meghan and Harry to visit Bristol
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will visit Bristol in what Kensington Palace describe as a chance for the royal couple “to meet members of the public, learn more about the city’s rich cultural history, and visit organisations supporting communities most in need”.
Stop-off points on the visit so far include the Bristol Old Vic and Empire Fighting Chance in Easton, which aims to fight the impact of deprivation on young people’s lives through boxing.
Bristol Old Vic artistic director Tom Morris said: “We are delighted to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Bristol Old Vic – a theatre newly redesigned to welcome everybody from the region to our unique and beautiful theatre.
“As Bristol’s Year Of Change continues to resonate across the region, we look forward to sharing with our Royal guests the city’s belief in the power of creative opportunity to transform the lives of everyone.”
Meghan was recently made patron of the National Theatre and will make her first visit to the London theatre the day before visiting Bristol with Prince Harry, who she married in May 2018.
Meghan, who is expecting a baby in the spring, made her name as an actor in Suits.
As well as being made patron of the National Theatre, the duchess earlier this month also took on honorary roles with Mayhew, Smart Works and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
The city’s most recent royal visit came in September 2018 when Prince William came to the Engine Shed to launch a new website dedicated to mental health in the workplace.
