Hydro-electric power station could be built in St Anne’s
A new hydroelectric scheme in St Anne’s could supply electricity for the equivalent of 250 homes.
The 300 kilowatt hydro scheme on the River Avon at Netham Weir could generate around one million kilowatt hours (units) of electricity per year.
Its purpose is to exploit the only hydro site in central Bristol and supply clean electricity to local business.
is needed now More than ever
Local community energy group Bristol Energy Cooperative are crowdfunding to finish developing the hydroelectric scheme.
The crowdfunding page closes on August 2 and has currently raised just under half of its initial £10,000 target.
The scheme is just one of the cooperative’s projects which contribute towards a zero carbon Bristol.
It has already secured crucial planning consent and key Environment Agency approvals. However, due to the over subscription of Feed-in-Tariffs, the cooperative missed out on securing subsidy for the scheme.

Netham Weir is the only hydro site in central Bristol
The cooperative are now rising to the challenge of progressing with the project without subsidy.
Bristol Energy Cooperative, a Better Business member, have been generating clean energy since 2012. The co-op is not-for-profit and runs its operations for the benefit of its members and the local community.
The cooperative will be participating in the Extinction Rebellion protests this week in Bristol to raise awareness for the need to move the sustainable economy forward.
