More plans revealed for new homes and school in St Philip’s
More information has been revealed about plans to build 500 homes, a secondary school, commercial spaces and student accomodation on a site in St Philip’s overlooking the Feeder Canal.
Development of the area around Silverthorne Lane is being carried out by Feeder Estates, a partnership managed by Square Bay who are currently at work redeveloping Brandon Yard off Anchor Road on the harbourside.
The development is part of the scheme to transform an area designated as the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone, a 100-acre site stretching from Temple Way to the Paintworks.

Temple Meads is on the far left, Arena Island in the bottom-left corner, Days Road and the Moor Beer brewery is top centre, the St Philip’s Causeway flyover goes diagonally across the right, Avonmeads Retail Park is far right, and Bristol Fruit Market is just underneath the bottom-middle.
The 500m-long site on Silverthorne Lane is currently occupied by warehouses and industrial buildings. Several historical buildings, many of which are now dilapidated shells, would be restored as part of the scheme.
Developers’ initial plans are for the homes to include affordable homes, the comprehensive school to be run by the Oasis Academy Trust who already have schools in Brislington and Hengrove, and for new walking and cycling routes to be created.
The current businesses on the site are due to leave by this summer, with developers currently in the pre-application stage with Bristol City Council and other stakeholders.
