More than 120 coronavirus cases confirmed at Bristol University

The University of Bristol has reversed their decision not to reveal the number of coronavirus cases.

University bosses initially refused to give an exact number, instead saying that “a very small number” of students had tested positive.

But in line with other UK universities, the institution is now releasing weekly figures of both staff and students with Covid-19.

On Wednesday, the university confirmed that 119 students and two staff have tested positive.

Cases are now confirmed on the university’s website, where they will be giving weekly updates every Wednesday and where additional advice, guidance and support for students can be found.

The weekly updates are in line with other institutions such as Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and Oxford.

The University of Bristol is a community of 28,000 students and 7,000 staff. Both staff members testing positive have been working from home and have not been teaching on campus.

Bristol24/7 understands that a joint statement from the university and Bristol City Council will be released on Thursday.
