‘Much loved’ SS Great Britain cat dies

By Mia Vines Booth  Friday Apr 21, 2023

SS Great Britain’s trustee custodial cat has died.

Izzy first arrived on the ship as a stray, but was soon welcomed in by the crew, where she quickly made the grand vessel her home.

The four-legged fur-ball guarded the ship for ten years, and even had her own Instagram page (@izzytheshipcat).

The feline friend could be spotted by visitors lounging on the sun deck, and keeping guard at the helm of the ship against unsuspecting visitors.

A post on her Instagram account read: “Our much loved ship’s cat Izzy passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon.

“She first arrived on site as a stray and was welcomed to her new home by the crew. Despite her small size she has been a big character for the 10 years she has been with us.

“She will be sorely missed by everyone at the SS Great Britain Trust.”
