Musical instrument repairs move into St Nick’s

By Anastasia Kazepi  Monday Jun 5, 2017

A repair shop specialising in woodwind and brass instruments has moved into St Nick’s Market.

Studio 7 Music Repairs, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2015, has expanded from its base in Centrespace into a new public-facing shop.

The business is an artisan music workshop, providing a skilled service that is unavailable elsewhere in the city.

Owner Richard Smith has been joined by French repairer Irène Fantapié, who qualified in the prestigious Institut Technologique Européen des Métiers de la Musique in Le Mans.

She has also worked at Buffet Crampon and Selmer – two of the world’s leading producers of wind-instruments.

The new shop will showcase the pair’s craftsmanship and offer a walk-in repair service, as well as continuing to repair the instruments of some of the country’s top musicians.

“Because we have more space and time, we are now able to bring a much wider range of services for musicians,” says workshop owner Richard. “Irène has brought a set of new skills to the table too.”

Some of the new services on offer include electronic keyboards repair and older electronic equipment repairs.

Richard acknowledges how crucial an instrument is to a musician, and says he’s aiming towards offering the best repairs and services. “We’ve got the training, we’ve got the experience and we’ve got the tools,” he says confidently.
