Ujima Radio wins big at national awards
Bristol community radio station Ujima Radio has been awarded two national prizes at the Community Radio Awards.
In front of a crowd of more than 100 guests at Birmingham City University on Saturday, Ujima were awarded gold for National Community Radio Station of the Year.
Heralded for her honest interviews and supportive nature, Ujima’s presenter Primrose Granville also won gold for National Female Presenter of the Year.

Ujima’s executive chair Roger Griffiths said it was a “huge honour” to have won at “the Oscars of our industry”. He added: “It is an amazing achievement for everyone involved with Ujima Radio.”
Based in St Paul’s and run by volunteers, Ujima Radio celebrate African and Caribbean cultures through music and discussion, as well as supplying news and entertainment around Bristol.
The station receives Arts Council Funding that helps them deliver a programme focused on promoting diversity in and around Bristol. The funding has allowed the station to give a voice to new talent, supporting and training over 150 volunteers every year.
Following the awards, the station also received praise from Mayor of Bristol Martin Rees, a former presenter there, who took to Twitter:

Ujima’s win follows a host of other awards including their win in 2015 for the National Diversity Award for Race, Religion and Faith.
