New anti-theft measures to combat YoBike vandalism

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Jun 15, 2017

It has been one month since YoBikes arrived in Bristol and since then the canary yellow bikes have become a distinctive part of the city’s street scene.

More than 10,000 people are now members of the hire scheme, competing some 1,800 rides across the city each day.

But YoBike bosses say they “are of course disappointed that vandalism and theft have begun to negatively affect the experience of our YoBike riders in Bristol”.

Bristol’s YoBike scheme now has 10,000 members

All  YoBikes are currently being retrofitted with cable locks to allow them to be fixed to existing bike stands and racks.

More robust parking measures are also being implemented, with members now required to park their YoBike at one of the parking locations displayed within the app.

More anti-theft and anti-vandalism measures will also be implemented in the coming weeks.

In a statement, YoBike said: “Bristol is our home and we are completely committed to working with the community and council to ensure YoBike remains a core part of Bristol’s transportation landscape.

“This is especially pertinent in a city that has been highlighted as one of the most congested in the UK.”

YoBikes have swiftly become a familiar sight across Bristol
