New development company launches with big vision for St Jude’s
The major regeneration of St Jude’s will be the primary focus for a new company founded by the man who led the development of Finzels Reach.
Billed as a “balanced new riverfront neighbourhood” known as Frome Gateway, the masterplan is to transform the area on the fringes of Cabot Circus, Old Market and the M32, with the potential to create up to 1500 new homes, job opportunities and more.
Gavin Bridge, the former founding director of Cubex who has stood down from his role after 17 years to launch Spatia, intends to move this vision forward under the name of the new company, in partnership with investor PfP Capital, the fund and asset management arm of Places for People Group.
The property developer promises a “fresh, open-minded approach” and to raise the bar in development through this new venture, which he says will spearhead “transformational mixed-use regeneration”, as well as creating low and zero carbon homes and “best-in-class, future-fit workspaces”.

“I’m hugely excited to be embarking on a new venture at a time when the world of property, an industry steeped in tradition, is having to reinvent itself as we experience a major shift in how we live, work and play,” says Bridge.
“That is a space I want to be in; challenging the status quo, raising the bar and instigating real change, transforming places, communities and lives by creating sustainable, inclusive neighbourhoods, future-fit, healthy workspaces and low and zero carbon homes that connect people.”
The focus of the new company will be on buying land without planning consent with the aim of adding value and developing projects of scale through to completion.
The plan is to develop the St Jude’s site with a community-led approach and Bristol Horn Youth Concern is leading engagement with people who live in and around the area.
