New leader for Bristol’s Green Party group

By Ellie Pipe  Monday Mar 6, 2017

The new leader of Bristol’s Green Party councillors has vowed to work on making the city a more “socially just place”.

Eleanor Combley was unanimously voted in by the party’s 11 Bristol City Council members at a recent group meeting and takes over from Charlie Bolton, who has stepped down from the role.

A former teacher, teacher trainer and software engineer with a background in physics, Combley was elected to Bishopston and Ashley Down ward in May last year.

She said: “I am delighted to be selected as Green Group Leader. The Green group councillors are great people to work with and I also look forward to working in a constructive fashion with all political groups to make Bristol a greener, more socially just place.”

Combley has lived in the area since 2001 and has also studied renewable energy technologies.

Bolton took on the role of leader after the last election.

He said: “As one of our most experienced councillors, I felt I should step in as leader to enable our new councillors to find their feet, but I am very happy to be able to stand down now and spend more time in my ward and on other projects.”
