New plans for 104 affordable homes on site of Trinity Road Police Station
The latest proposals for Trinity Road Police Station will see the existing building demolished to make way for 104 affordable homes.
The Guinness Partnership has revealed details of plans after acquiring the Old Market property, which is deemed no longer fit for purpose by Avon and Somerset Police and has long been up for sale.
If granted permission, the housing provider intends to build 104 one to three-bedroom rented and shared ownership apartments on the site, as well as a new police station that would take up part of the ground floor of the new building.

Arts charity Bricks had previously hoped to transform the run-down police station into a community arts hub – a venture that has since opened in St Anne’s House instead.
The planning application submitted for the Trinity Road site this month marks the latest in a number of future proposals in Lawrence Hill ward, with neighbouring St Jude’s already earmarked for major redevelopment as part of the Frome Gateway vision.
“Our planning application, if approved by the council, will see us delivering much need affordable housing in Bristol as well as a new space to ensure the police can continue to have a local presence,” said Ed Barnes, development director at The Guinness Partnership, adding: “We are committed to building new homes and creating communities in Bristol, and across the country.”
Plans for the new apartments include shared courtyard gardens and communal cycle storage, as well as parking and a commercial unit.
The company, which is also currently developing the McArthur’s Yard site on Gas Ferry Road, hopes to begin construction on the new development in late summer next year and anticipates the project will be completed by spring 2024.
During the construction, police officers and staff will be temporarily based out of alternative nearby locations in Bristol, until they can be re-housed at the new Trinity Road Police Station.

Neighbourhood chief inspector Deepak Kenth, said: “We’re committed to keeping a police presence in Trinity, maintaining links with the people who live and work here and continuing our work with them to resolve any issues or concerns they have.
“Staff and officers will be temporarily based at alternative nearby locations in Bristol during the construction of the new station, but we want to assure residents they will continue to have access to the local team. The same number of officers and PCSOs will be out and about patrolling in the area every day and continuing to work alongside our local residents.”
Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Shelford has welcomed the new plans, saying they will ensure force staff have a “fit-for-purpose station” as well as much-needed homes.
