New specialist sixth-form centre opens in Bristol
A new £7m sixth-form centre for young people with additional needs has opened in south Bristol.
The building is an extension to the existing Knowle DGE specialist school on Leinster Avenue in Knowle West, which currently has 160 pupils aged five to 19.
The new block offers traditional and vocational courses for up to 40 students and includes two independent living units.

There are also approved plans for 71 homes on the unused area around the new facility.
“We are delighted with the completion of our new state-of-the-art building,” said Knowle DGE’s head teacher, Kate Lee-Wells.
“It will be a fantastic addition to our facilities and ensure that we can continue to provide our young people with a wealth of educational opportunities so they can fulfil both their ambitions and potential.”

The new sixth-form hub has been built by Skanska on the site of the former Florence Brown School, which was demolished around a decade ago and replaced by Knowle DGE.
The academy was given a ‘requires improvement’ rating when it was visited by Ofsted inspectors in February of this year.
