New standards set to improve conditions in Bristol’s arts sector

Launching in early 2019, the Bristol Culture Standard will be a set of co-written pledges around best employment and working practice in arts and culture.

Organisations and employers in the cultural sector across Bristol will be invited to sign up and deliver these standards by 2020.

Teams at the Watershed and Arnolfini are working together to lead what they hope will become a city-wide effort, with Bristol City Council and the DIY Arts Network also helping to shape as inclusive a conversation as possible towards creating the Bristol Culture Standard pledges.

Five sessions across the city taking place in November and December are designed to gather feedback and co-write the Bristol Culture Standard.

The purpose of each session will be to produce together a set of suggested changes that would make a difference to working in arts and culture in Bristol.

Attendance at the sessions is supported by 20 bursaries of £50 each, designed to enable people to attend.
