No inquest for murdered bride Anni Dewani
There is “not sufficient cause” to open an inquest into the death of honeymoon murder victim Anni Dewani, a coroner has ruled.
Bristol businessman Shrien Dewani, her husband, was cleared at a trial last year after being extradited to South Africa, where Anni was shot in a botched hijacking in November 2010.
Shrien was accused by South African prosecutors of arranging the death of his new wife. Three people were jailed for her murder.
Andrew Walker, senior coroner at North London Coroners’ Court, said: “In these proceedings, the matter will now rest,” the BBC reported.
Anni’s father Vinod Hindocha, and uncle Ashok Hindocha had argued at a previous hearing that Shrien should be ordered to attend an inquest and answer questions.
But the coroner ruled otherwise at a final hearing on Friday.
Anni’s family say they are still seeking answers despite three men being jailed for her murder last year.
