Nominations open for Bristol Young Heroes Awards 2020
Recognising the valuable contribution young people make to the city, the Bristol Young Heroes Awards is an annual celebration of people aged 11 to 19 who have achieved incredible things and overcome difficult circumstances.
In 2020, the awards return for a seventh year, taking place at We The Curious on Friday, May 1, with nominations open from November 6-13 2019.
To celebrate the nominations opening, an event was held at City Hall with previous winners, sponsors and the mayor to showcase the wide reach of the awards, which are organised by Community of Purpose.

The awards are supported by organisations including GKN Aerospace, Boston Tea Party and UWE Bristol. Winners range from young carers to individuals who have contributed to the community through volunteers.
“We help shine a spotlight on some incredible young people who would, quite honestly, go unrecognised,” said Amy Kingston, CEO of Community of Purpose.
“Young Heroes is a great event because it gives us the opportunity to shine a spotlight on young people who are saving lives, raised huge amounts of money for charity, who have been a carer, who have done something incredible for the environment. These people are making the world a better place and without these awards they may go unrecognised.”
There are nine categories in which people can nominate young people including ‘Team Hero’, a new category, which aims to recognise the work done by organisations or groups who go above and beyond to support the city’s young people.
In addition to this, there is also the overall Hero award, chosen from the category winners, and the High Sheriff’s Award, which is given to an individual who has shown considerable dedication to the service of young people.

Mayor Marvin Rees said: “The young people that these awards recognise are an inspiration and a brilliant advertisement for the communities in our city.
“I urge everyone who knows any outstanding young people to nominate them and give them the chance to enjoy this celebration and well-deserved recognition.”
