One dead after New Cut crash

By Martin Booth  Saturday Feb 25, 2023

A man has died and two others were injured after the car they were travelling in went through some railings and ended up in the water of the New Cut.

The man in his 20s was one of three people in the car when it crashed on York Road in Bedminster at 1.24am on Saturday morning.

The other two occupants received medical attention, with roads in the area remaining closed for several hours.

Following the incident, Avon & Somerset Constabulary referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The mandatory referral was as a “result of police being in the proximity at the time”, but Bristol24/7 understands that a police vehicle was not in pursuit of the car.

The car was lifted out of the water by a crane soon before 5.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
