One Love as Bristol community radio station reopens after fire
Bob Marley’s face featured on a giant poster to celebrate the reopening of BCfm’s studio six months after a devastating fire.
The team behind the much-loved community radio station chose the late reggae legend’s birthday to officially mark their move back into the newly-renovated and improved main broadcasting room during the One Love Breakfast Show on Thursday.
The fire broke out while the Silversound show was live on air in August 2019, leaving just the charred remains of equipment and furniture in its wake.

The community quickly rallied and a Crowdfunder, launched to help cover the costs of repairs not covered by insurance, smashed its £2,000 target to receive pledges of more than £13,000 in just 15 days.

Speaking ahead of the re-opening, BCfm CEO and station manager Pat Hart said: “We’ve been humbled by the generosity of our city and beyond both in support and donations. We’ve managed not only to cover the cost of our studio rebuild but also improve our second studio to enable even more community access which has always been our ultimate aim.
“Our dedicated team of volunteers has been amazing, our engineer Mike Edney is waiting for a heart operation and he’s refused to stop working in order to get the refit finished.”
