Outdoor cinema on the Downs cancelled due to ‘external safety concerns’

By Ellie Pipe  Sunday Aug 7, 2022

A company set to host a series of outdoor cinema screenings has cancelled the remainder of its Bristol shows with immediate effect.

Adventure Cinema bosses have said in a statement that the move is “due to an ongoing external safety concern around the perimeter of the event arena at Clifton Downs”.

It has meant open air screenings, including Rocketman, West Side Story and Pulp Fiction, due to take place on the Downs have been cancelled.

The company says it was with “great sadness” that it made the decision and apologised to the thousands of ticket holders affected.

The statement announcing the cancellations has been posted on Facebook pages for the specific events affected. Adventure Cinema has not made any mention of the news on its main website or social media channels, which cover events across the UK.

In a statement, the company said: “Due to an ongoing external safety concern around the perimeter of our event arena at Clifton Downs, we have unfortunately been forced to cancel the remainder of our Bristol shows this weekend, with immediate effect.

“The safety of our customers and staff is of the highest priority to us and the situation leaves us with no option but to cancel all shows to assure everyone involved is kept safe.

“All ticket holders will of course be refunded in full automatically, so there is no need to request a refund.

“It is with great sadness that we have to make this decision and we are extremely sorry for the huge inconvenience and disappointment this will cause but hope you will understand the difficult position that we are in.

“We are very sorry to have to cancel. This is a safety issue outside of our event area and nothing to do with our event but I’m sure you can understand that we must keep yourselves and our staff safe and have to react to the ongoing situation.”
