By Ellie Pipe  Monday Jul 11, 2022

A man in his 20s has died after being struck by a vehicle while he was walking to work.

The pedestrian was making his way along the pavement next to Airport Road when he was fatally hit by a grey Audi A3 at around 9.56pm on Sunday evening. Police say he died at the scene.

Officers arrested a 30-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A second man was also arrested in connection with the incident and both remain in police custody.

The road was closed overnight while collision investigators examined the scene and the vehicle was recovered. It reopened again just after 9am on Monday morning.

Police are now appealing for witnesses. Anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam or other footage showing the manner in which the Audi was being driven prior to the incident are asked to call 101 and give the reference 5222164028.
