The people from Bristol recognised in the King’s New Year’s Honours 2023

People from across all walks in life in Bristol have been recognised in King Charles’ first New Year’s Honours list.

From charity workers to a badminton coach, a blood donor to a vaccine taskforce lead, those awarded CBEs, MBEs and OBEs have helped their communities in a number of different ways.

These are the people from Bristol in the 2023 list:

CBE

  • Louise Mitchell, Bristol Beacon chief executive: for services to the arts in Bristol

  • Denis Burn: for services to charity and to the community in Bristol
  • Edson Burton; writer, academic and curator: for services to the Arts and to the community in Bristol
  • Anthony Dent, former automotive director at Bristol Port Company: for services to the automotive sector
  • Sandy Hore-Ruthven; chair, South West Committee, BBC Children in Need and former CEO of Creative Youth Network: for services to young people in Bristol

  • Jeff Liddiatt: for services to nuclear test veterans and to the community in Bristol
  • Joanne Scott; commercial lead, Vaccine Taskforce: for services to public health during Covid-19

OBE

  • Nura Aabe, Autism Independence founder: for services to people with autism
  • Mary Golledge: for services to the community in Begbrook and Stapleton
  • Torkwase Holmes; donor ambassador & outreach officer, NHS Blood & Transplant: for services to diversity in blood donation
  • Will Mellersh, Chew Valley Badminton Club head coach: for services to badminton in Bristol
  • Lucy Mitchell: for services to the community in Golden Hill
