Phase two of Wapping Wharf reaches major milestone
Construction work has reached a major milestone for next phase of Wapping Wharf. Abel Yard and Hope Quay, which will house 256 new apartments, have now reached their final height – five and six floors respectively.
To celebrate the structures reaching their full height, key members of the project gathered for a traditional ‘topping out’ ceremony.
Joined by mayor Marvin Rees, representatives from Umberslade, Balfour Beatty, Muse, Sovereign Housing and Homes England met to screw in the final bolt of the building’s steel skeleton.

“This is another key moment for Wapping Wharf,” said managing director of Umberslade, Stuart Hatton. “We recognise the commitment and hard work it has taken from the construction teams to get this second phase to this stage.”
Of the 256 homes currently being built at Wapping Wharf, 93 will be sold to Sovereign Housing Association, 49 of which will be shared ownership housing and the remainder for private rent, with the rest for private sale.
In addition to the 256 homes currently being build, a further 81 affordable homes will be constructed separately as part of phase two.
As part of the construction work, the Grade-II listed Gaol Gate dating from the 1800s will also be restored to become the new entrance to the area.
Central Walk at Wapping Wharf will stretch from the historic former Bristol Gaol gatehouse to Museum Street
Construction work on phase two is expected to finish in 2020 and the one, two and three bed apartments launched to the market at the beginning of September 2019.
