Pig’s head left in alleyway being investigated as hate crime
A pig’s head was left on one of the entrance pillars to a block of flats that was recently attacked by an arsonist.
Police are treating the incident in Barton Hill as a hate crime and are attempting to reassure local residents, many of who do not feel safe in their own homes.
The head was originally left outside Eccleston House off Avonvale Road.
is needed now More than ever
Muna Mohamoud, a resident of Ecclestone House, told BBC Points West that the pig’s head “was just another sign to make us feel traumatised, and to try to make us feel unease and like we shouldn’t be there”.
“It’s very shocking to see this kind of hate crime and racism in 2022,” tweeted Barton Hill Activity Club CIC.
In a statement, chief inspector Deepak Kenth from Avon & Somerset police said: “Based on the information we have at this time, this incident is being treated as a hate crime and an investigation has been launched.
“Officers from the neighbourhood policing team are carrying out reassurance in the local community, as well as working closely with our network of partner agencies and organisations.”
Police believe that the head was left in the alleyway sometime on Sunday morning.
They are currently trawling through CCTV footage as well as conducting house-to-house and forensic enquiries in order to to find the person or people who did this.
Kenth added: “There is absolutely no place for hate, or crude attempts to cause upset or division, in our communities.”
