Pilot draws smiley faces in the sky above Bristol

All eyes were on the skies above Bristol on Tuesday evening as two smiley faces appeared – made by a retired RAF pilot to bring some much-needed cheer to the city.

Richard Goodwin took off from Gloucestershire Airport in Cheltenham and travelled the short distance south to Bristol, creating the giant emojis over Hotwells and Almondsbury that could be seen from miles away.

The fun-loving pilot regularly helps the Fly2Help charity, which gives people the chance to enjoy aviation experiences.

The charity also runs an “air smiles” programme.

Fly2Help’s Kim Lewington said that the air smiles “can give anyone who is going through a tough time in their life a bit of a pick-up”.

This was certainly the case in Bristol on Tuesday, with Bristol24/7 readers across the city sending us their photos and videos of the two smiley faces.
