Planning application granted for stone bridge

By Bristol24/7  Friday Jul 15, 2016

For the first time in 100 years across the UK and Europe, planning permission has been granted for a stone arch bridge.

If funding is found, the 50m-long bridge will be built on the Downs near the top of Bridge Valley Road, providing improvements for pedestrians, cyclists and people with physical disabilities.

Designers claim that the new Bristol bridge will be almost entirely hidden within the valley and natural landscape and offer a new experience of a canopy walk through the woodlands.

The project also aims to offer opportunities for relearning the art of building masonry bridges, create jobs, and provide training opportunities and apprenticeship programmes.
