Plans go in for Magpie restaurant

By Bristol24/7  Friday Oct 21, 2016

A planning application to convert one of Bristol’s longest-running squats into a restaurant and bar have been submitted to the city council.

The former squat on the corner of Ashley Road and Picton Street, known as The Magpie, was purchased at auction this year by the company behind The Lanes and Crofters Rights.

The owner told Bristol24/7 in September that he hoped to lease the building to two local businesses in order to create a farm shop and a bakery.

But plans have now been submitted for a change of use from a shop to a restaurant or cafe with space for 84 covers.

A previous planning application was lodged on June 29 for a change of use, but the application was later withdrawn.

The site was bought at auction for £300,000 in April this year by Coppin Street Leisure Consultancy Ltd, owned by Australian businessman Jonathan Dalton.

Bristol24/7 contacted Dalton for a response to the latest proposals.

Basic plans for the new restaurant have been submitted to Bristol City Council
