Points West celebrates 60th anniversary with guest presenters
Bristol-born actor Joe Sims, best known for playing plumber Nige Carter in Broadchurch, is the first guest reporter on Points West as the BBC regional news bulletin celebrates its 60th birthday.
On Wednesday, January 4, Sims will present a story about Concorde at Filton. His father helped make the engines for the supersonic plane that will become the star attraction at a new aviation museum opening later this year.

Other guest reporters making and starring in their own film about a subject close to their hearts will include Aardman co-founder Peter Lord, businesswoman and Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden, and broadcasters Anne Diamond and John Craven, two previous Points West reporters.
Points West editor Neil Bennett said: “We’ve come a long way in the last 60 years and we’re as relevant today as in 1957… This year will be as much about looking at how we can improve what we do in the future, as it is about reflecting our past.”
Later in the year, the programme will be working with 16- to 30-year-olds from the region and asking them to make films about the stories that matter to them, while the guest reporters will feature on the first Monday of every month.
