Police appeal after racial abuse attack

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Shirehampton.

A man was walking his dog in Stoke Lodge Park on the morning of Saturday, June 4 when he was approached by another man who racially abused him.

He then punched him in the head, causing him to lose consciousness.

The victim required hospital treatment for injuries to his jaw and eye.

PC Laurence Castle said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack and happened when the park would have been busy with lots of people.

“I am sure someone would have witnessed this assault and we need them to come forward now.”

The suspect is described as being white, approximately 5ft 9ins tall and of medium build. He was aged between 35-40 years old and had a distinctive greying beard of medium length and looked quite neat. He was walking a chocolate coloured dog, possibly a pointer. 

He had dark hair with grey bits in, and was wearing a grey sweatshirt, grey jogging bottoms and brown trainers.
