Police appeal over airport bomb hoax
Police have issued an appeal after a bomb hoax that shut down Bristol Airport for nearly six hours over the weekend.
The Avon and Somerset police have contacted all passengers on board Saturday’s 11.42pm Ryanair flight FR8297 from Alicante as they opened a criminal investigation.
Bristol Airport was evacuated after the police received a call that a suspicious item was on board the aircraft, and the Airport was closed to air traffic until 5.45pm.
Flights were delayed and diverted to Cardiff, Birmingham, and Stansted as investigations were carried out.
Frustrated passengers took to social media to complain as they were left stranded, unable to get home from holidays and business trips.
Operations are now back to normal and there are no more flight delays.
A spokesperson at the airport said: “Bristol airport would like to apologise for the inconvenience that this investigation has caused to passengers and staff but they stress that safety and security comes first at all times in all situations.”
Police are asking anyone with information that may help their investigation to get in touch via 101.
