Police called to car show on Downs

By Martin Booth  Monday Aug 24, 2020

Dozens of cars were parked on the Downs on Sunday evening, with some owners driving their vehicles at speed along the roads.

Police attended the event, which even had burger and ice cream vans to feed those who had come to admire the high performance cars.

“We’re currently responding to reports more than 300 motorists have gathered on Clifton Downs, Bristol & are driving dangerously on surrounding roads,” Avon & Somerset Police tweeted at 9.43pm on Sunday.

A local resident told Bristol24/7 that at around 7pm, people were arriving, parking up and hanging out in big groups, and driving mostly along Ladies Mile.

She said: “It appeared very organised and could easily have been an official event (apart from no signs or obvious marshals). I hope the organisers and as many attendees as possible are found and prosecuted.”
