Police give new minibus to arson victim
Police in Bristol have donated a replacement minibus to a group of young air cadets whose bus was destroyed in an arson attack last month
The vehicle, which was kept at the Speedwell base of Air Cadet Squadron 1860, was set on fire along with a caretakers’ car in what an anarchist group later said was a protest at the “powermongering disguised as benevolent international peacekeeping”.
The cadet group said they did not have funds to replace their bus, torched during the early hours of Wednesday, August 28, but this week Avon and Somerset police stepped in to help.
Superintendent Paul Richards from the force presented the 2006 Mercedes Sprinter van to the cadets on Tuesday evening.
is needed now More than ever
Flying Officer Audrey Smart, Officer Commanding of 1860 squadron, said: “It has been a trying time but there has been a fantastic public response, the cadets will be over the moon with the police offer of the replacement minibus.”
Cadet Flight Sergeant Joanna Wrobel added: “We went to many places in the old minibus and I have lots of memories and now they’re gone, but through the generosity of the police we can continue to take part in activities.”
Supt Richards said: “We’re delighted to be able to provide the cadets with one of our previously used support vehicles and we hope that it will provide them with many years of enjoyment.”
