Police officer to appear in court over tasering of Judah Adunbi
Race relations campaigner Judah Adunbi was walking his dog through Easton in January when he was targeted by police in an apparent case of mis-identification and tasered in the face.
It sparked outrage in the community and campaigners have been calling for justice to be done for the 63-year-old grandfather.
An officer involved in the incident will now appear in court to face a charge of common assault following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
is needed now More than ever
A statement from the IPCC confirmed PC Claire Boddie has been summoned to appear at Taunton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 14.
The investigation was launched after Avon and Somerset police voluntarily referred a complaint about the incident that took place in Colston Road on Saturday, January 14.
The Crown Prosecution Service received the IPCC report and decided there was sufficient evidence in the IPCC file and that it was in the public interest to charge PC Boddie.
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said the force is unable to comment further while criminal proceedings are ongoing, but reiterated that they are continuing to fully cooperate with the IPCC as the investigation progresses.
The spokesman added: “Chief Constable Andy Marsh has made clear from the start that we will discuss the matter fully and publicly once the investigation has concluded.”
