Avon and Somerset police are planning to recruit up to 120 new police officers over the next 12 months.
The force is hoping to attract a wide range of applicants and is “encouraging people from all backgrounds to consider a career in policing”.
Acting Chief Constable John Long said the force “wants to reach all parts of the community” and he encouraged “people from all corners of the force area apply”.
is needed now More than ever
He added that in order of “build trust” it was important that the “workforce reflects the communities we serve” and they are “actively encouraging people from all cultural, ethnic and religious background” to apply.
Although the force is looking to save £8m by reducing its total number of officers by 134 a spokesperson said the new positions would backfill for officers who have retired, transferred to another force or left the force.
Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said the opportunity to recruit new officers will be “few and far between” over the next few years and she urged people to apply.
“People relate to people and different people can bring different life experiences to the role of a police officer. It is only by embracing this diversity that Avon and Somerset can be the best policing service for local people.”
