By Bristol24/7  Monday Jun 22, 2020

Police have released a photo of a man they would like to speak to following damage to a statue in St Paul’s.

The man used an unknown substance on the bust of Alfred Fagon in Grosvenor Road Triangle, with witnesses reporting that he was attempting to clean it.

The bust is the only statue to a black person in Bristol.

The bronze statue of the actor, playwright and poet on the corner of Grosvenor Road and Ashley Road was unveiled in August 1987 exactly one year after Fagon’s premature death in London.

Officers were first made aware of the damage on Thursday, June 11.

If you recognise the man in the photo or have any other information which could help enquiries, call 101 or visit www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, quoting reference 5220127432.

Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
