Popular restaurant apologises after customer finds cockroach
A pizza restaurant has apologised after a customer found a cockroach hiding under the card machine.
The customer was paying for their food at G Bros on Albion Road in Easton using the card machine, when a cockroach ran out from underneath it.
The unsatisfied patron took to Reddit to voice their anger about the restaurant’s hygiene levels, claiming the restaurant had pretended not to notice the cockroach and had tried to hide its poor hygiene rating.
is needed now More than ever
“I went to G Bros Pizza last night, I like the pizza there and it’s local…” they said.
“I picked up the handset to pay (I don’t do contactless) and as I put it down a cockroach appeared from under the cradle and ran back under!
“The guy behind the counter pretended not to see. He went round back to the kitchens for some reason so I lifted the cradle in front of another customer and sure enough, a cockroach ran out and down the staff side.
“I exchanged depressed glances with the other customer. I went outside to see what the food hygiene rating was, and the sticker was missing. Turns out it is 1.
“Firstly I can’t imagine how many vermin must be in there for one to be wandering around the counter. Secondly, don’t hide the food hygiene stickers you pricks.”
The owner of G Bros responded to the Reddit thread within hours of it being posted, apologising for the situation and admitting the restaurant had an ongoing problem with pests.
“I’m really sorry about this situation, pest control is an ongoing fight and we definitely take it very seriously don’t worry we will solve this problem and are customers of a reputable pest controller,” they responded.
“I must admit the 1 rating by EHO was a blow and was mainly to do with building maintenance and absent paperwork.
“We have solved every one of the inspector’s concerns but are awaiting our next inspection. We weren’t trying to hide it – it is displayed and we’ve no obligation to do so. Obviously it isn’t the proudest part of our history!
“Thanks so much for saying you like the pizza, we’ll continue to work hard to produce the best food possible!”
A number of Reddit users quickly moved to defend the pizza restaurant, and pointed out that hygiene ratings weren’t always a reflection of a restaurant’s cleanliness.
G Bros is one of the most popular pizza restaurants in Bristol, and has one of the highest ratings on Tripadvisor.
Its owner, Gareth, originally served its sourdough wood-fired pizzas from a van, but opened G Bros in August 2017 with his brother, Geoff.
