‘Poverty tours of Easton’

Offering “bespoke walking tours of Easton Village”, a spoof sign spotted on Greenbank Road seems to be an attempt to poke fun at the increased gentrification of BS5.

Underneath a bearded bespectacled gentleman sporting a man bun, the sign – with the title in bright pink capital letters, ‘Coming soon – Poverty tours of Eston’ – was pinned to a lamppost near Este Kitchen.

“Join us in consuming the edgy atmosphere,” the notice reads. “Pose as a member of the community who ‘deeply cares about the plight of the locals’ while raising your tenants (sic) rent.

“Regale Bristolians with your tales of London living and how much you love the Brixon vibe.

“We welcome all walks of life from people who’ve moved from London to people who’ve moved from Brighton.

“So come along. Everyone loves a tourist.”

It comes less than a fortnight after figures released from the Office of National Statistics revealed that more than 80 people a week are moving from London to Bristol.

People leaving Hackney were more likely to head to Bristol than anywhere else.
