Primary school pupils dance to songs from each decade of Queen’s reign

By Martin Booth  Thursday May 26, 2022

It was a jubilee garden party to remember: with homemade crowns, a cake competition and a display of artworks of the Queen.

On the playground in front of their families, pupils at Hotwells Primary School also performed dances from songs released during each decade of the Queen’s reign.

From the Beatles to the Black Eyed Peas, the Bee Gees to MC Hammer, the party was a royal success.

As if the dancing wasn’t enough excitement, the school choir – directed by Class 1 teacher Nick Rees – also serenaded the gathered throng.

Children then joined their adults for a platinum jubilee picnic on the green, in front of artwork by Andy Council highlighting many local sites.

“We had been rehearsing the dances for a few weeks,” a Class 6 pupil told Bristol24/7. “Performing was a bit scary but lots of fun! I also really enjoyed being able to have a picnic at school with my mum and dad.”

Hotwells Primary School on Hope Chapel Hill still has spaces in their nursery and reception classes, and across the school, now and for September. For more information, visit www.hotwells.bristol.sch.uk.
