Prison for dealer who tried to run over cop

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Oct 5, 2016

An Easton drug dealer has been sentenced to more than six years in prison after attempting to run over the policeman who caught him red handed.

Curtis Hall, 23, of Stapleton Road, was spotted dealing to a man in Woodbine Road, Whitehall, by sergeant Chris Green who cycled over and shouted for the pair to stay where they were.

By the time Green got close Hall was already back in his Vauxhall Corsa and drove straight towards Green who dived off his bicycle which became caught under the wheels.

The wedged bicycle prevented the car from moving further and Green smashed the windows of the vehicle and restrained Hall who was later arrested.

Hall has been remanded in custody since May. He pleaded guilty at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday to four counts of possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine, as well as dangerous driving.

After Hall was sentenced to six years and four months in prison, Green said: “I’m under no illusion that Hall would have ran over anyone who got in his way that evening.

“I’m really pleased with the sentence he received, especially in light of the fact he’d continued to deal while on bail for previous drug offences we’d arrested him for in March.

“We’re continuing to target dealers – just last week several arrests were made across east Bristol and a knife, Taser and machete were taken off the streets.”

He added: “We need the public to keep working with us and tell us what they know.”

Anyone with information about people they believe to be dealing drugs should report their suspicions to the police online or on the non-emergency number 101. Or, to give information anonymously, call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or through their website, www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
