Protesters win battle over RPZ in St Paul’s

By Chris Brown  Wednesday Oct 15, 2014

A street in St Paul’s in which residents barred workmen from painting new resident parking zone bays will no longer be included in the scheme.

Morgan Street will be the only street in the area where people can park their car for free when the scheme goes live next week.

Mayor George Ferguson said he was “relaxed” about the choice not to take on the protesters, while cabinet member and Ashley ward councillor Gus Hoyt said the mayor did not want to fight with residents “especially over such a trivial matter”.

The climbdown follows the delay to the implementation of the scheme in Clifton Village, announced during the summer and following protests involving traders using a Sherman tank to publicise their grievances.
