Public hire e-bikes coming to Bristol
Bristol is to get 24 electric bikes for hire through a Boris Bikes-style scheme, as part of a Government project.
The bikes are being set up at “employment hubs” and will be available to workers during the day and the general public at night.
Bristol has been chosen as one of a number of cities to host the new £700,000 national project due to its hills.
The Government hopes the scheme will encourage more people to cycle in hilly cities by using public bikes which give electrical assistance at the flick of a switch.
The bikes will be looked after by car sharing company Co-Wheels and will be secured in lockers opened using a card.
The lockers will be set up at the council’s offices on Temple Street, the fire service headquaarters on Temple Back, a yet-to-be-decided location on Stokes Croft and Bristol UWE’s Bower Ashton campus.
The price of the bike hire is yet to be decided.
