Rees recruits his top leadership team

Executive director resources (head of paid service)
Salary: from £135,000 to £165,000
“You will be our Head of Paid Service and we will look to you for clear strategic direction as you help deliver our One City Plan and manage resources. You’ll guarantee that we’re using them in the best possible way, and ensure financial accountability. You’ll also advise the Mayor and Cabinet on policy options, and help with planning objectives, services and resources to achieve our goals for Bristol.”
Executive director care & safeguarding
£135,000 to £165,000
“With the welfare of Bristol’s citizens at the heart of everything you do, you’ll ensure we’re a good corporate parent for looked after children and safeguard all our vulnerable people. This job is about providing city-wide leadership, and making sure we fulfil our legal and moral obligations. Not only that, you’ll help Bristol’s pupils go above and beyond national standards.”
Executive director growth and regeneration
£135,000 to £165,000
“To turn our exciting aspirations into reality, we need an inspirational leader for the Council’s growth agenda. Someone who can work with agencies and partners to make our Economic Growth Strategy happen. Inclusive regeneration, sustainable economic growth, physical renewal: you’ll bring all the above and investment too. With your expertise, we’ll also achieve our objectives in terms of new housing, major transportation and capital projects, including the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone. It’s all part of our exciting One City Plan.”
Director: city wellbeing, resilience and strategic partnerships
£85,000 to £105,000
“You will lead in close partnership with the senior management team, to deliver a critical system-leadership approach for improved health outcomes. This will continue the great work we have already started alongside our city partners to develop and deliver a city plan that makes Bristol a strong, healthy and successful city for its residents for years to come. So it’s a role with real impact – one that’ll see you improve wellbeing across our diverse, eclectic city.”
Director: commercialisation
£85,000 to £105,000
“You’ll lead, promote and deliver a sustainable commercial approach. One that boosts income and maximises revenues to strengthen our overall financial position. That’s why you’ll act as our principal adviser on all commercialising services, and develop new commercial opportunities across our city – helping to generate funds for future investment.”
Director: ICT, policy & strategy
£85,000 to £105,000
“This is about shaping the development of our corporate strategy. In fact, it’ll be your role to lead the entire work of the policy and strategy teams. With strong, inspirational leadership, you’ll oversee our public affairs approach, strategic framework, and corporate information management and technology capabilities.”
Director: growth, investment & infrastructure
£94,000 to £120,000
“Working with the Mayor and the Senior Leadership Team, you will set a rolling Capital Programme (linked to the Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy, borrowing strategy, and Corporate Strategy objectives). You will also be responsible for the measurable economic growth, including the City’s Cultural Services (which are nationally and internationally recognised) and securing international investment. Whilst seeking to develop an ambitious property strategy, to support the Council’s operational requirements and regeneration ambitions.”
Director: homes & landlord services
£85,000 to £105,000
“In this vital role, you’ll be responsible for our homes strategy ensuring delivery meets demand. It’s about ensuring our housing stock and estates are not only renewed, but also meet the Decent Homes Standard. And, about putting roofs over more heads by swiftly re-housing homeless people. Because our communities deserve high-quality, safe homes.”
A Labour group spokesman said: “The senior posts referred to are being advertised as part of a council restructure which will see almost £850,000 per year cut from City Hall senior management. The Labour administration has exceeded its £750,000 annual savings target in this area by almost £100,000.
“This news follows further figures released in recent months which showed that the cost of temporary contracts at the council has fallen by almost two-thirds under Marvin Rees. Employment agency charges have also been negotiated down by one-third since then.”
