‘We remain hopeful for the miracle that might yet revive our fortunes’
Bristol’s last-remaining residential rehab centre has just weeks left before it closes for good, but director James Dickinson remains hopeful a miracle will save it.
Chandos House provides a vital lifeline for people battling addiction – and, even as its future hangs in the balance due to funding cuts, has taken on seven new men facing life-threatening situations on a pro-bono basis in the last fortnight.
High profile names, including Will Self and Russell Brand have already voiced their support for the rehab centre and James is now hoping the people of Bristol and beyond will rally to help raise the funds needed to secure its future.

James said: “Despite our funding being slashed, there is still a greater need than ever for our services, this is borne out by the fact that we have no available beds, and are now in danger of having to turn those in urgent need away.
“Now, not only are we on a daily basis battling with some of the most damaged men in society as they fight their addictions, but we are also facing a battle for our whole survival.
“So, without an immediate financial lifeline we will have no choice but to close our doors on November 8. We will continue our work until our closure, and we remain hopeful for the miracle that might yet revive our fortunes.”

Chandos House has helped 51 men overcome their addictions in the last year alone
The all-male residential addiction treatment facility has been in operation for 33 years, but a series of funding cuts have taken their toll and Chandos has already had to streamline the number of beds and staff.
In the last year alone, it has seen 51 men, known as the Chandos brothers, complete is unique, holistic programme to treat addiction – all of whom have experienced homelessness and psychological abuse and trauma. It costs £900 per week to treat each individual.
An event is being held at the Chandos Road house on Monday, September 24 from 5.30pm-7.30pm to thank supporters and raise the profile of the centre’s plight in the hope of a reprieve.
There will be jerk chicken and a vegan brown stew, and a chance to share memories and stories.
