Residents rescued from flats above during serious fire at restaurant
Five residents were rescued from the flats above a restaurant on Whiteladies Road following a serious fire breaking out.
Fire crews from as far away as Portishead attended the blaze soon after 1am on Thursday morning.
Some residents had to be woken up in their beds as the fire raged in The Ox below, with five people rescued and 16 people evacuated from the building.

The blaze was mostly battled from the rear of the building, with 24 firefighters in breathing apparatus using four high pressure hose reels and two 45mm jets to extinguish the fire.
They also used six positive pressure ventilation fans to clear smoke from the property.
Police officers and ambulance crews also attended the fire, and the road was closed. The cause is currently unknown.

The Ox on Whiteladies Road is one of three Ox restaurants, with the others on Corn Street and in Cheltenham. It is owned by the same team behind Hyde & Co, Milk Thistle, Pata Negra and Bambalan.
In a statement, The Ox owners said: “Sadly The Ox Clifton suffered a serious fire last night. Thankfully nobody was hurt and we’d like to thank the fire service for their support.
“We’re working with them and our landlord to establish the cause and will be closed until further notice.
“We’ll be contacting all of our customers who had bookings with us and doing our best to accommodate them at our other restaurants, and will also be finding positions at our other venues for all of the team.
“We’d like to say thank you to everyone for all of their support.”
