Return of Bristol Walk Fest

By Ellie Pipe  Monday Apr 10, 2017

Amblers, ramblers and scramblers will soon be taking to the city streets and parks as the annual Bristol Walk Fest returns in May.

This year’s urban celebration of strolling promises to offer plenty for all ages and abilities and highlights include a treasure hunt, searching for bugs, yoga on the move and ping pong for pedestrians.

Activities take place throughout May and everyone – from ageing amblers to keen young explorers – are encouraged to participate in some of the 140 different walks available across the city, the majority of which are free.

Becky Pollard, Bristol City Council’s public health director, said: “For the last five years, Bristol Walk Fest has encouraged people of all ages to go out and get active at whatever level they can.

“Walking is a great way to be active and by getting out just once a day for a stroll can make such a difference to your health and wellbeing.  I hope that we see more people than ever before getting out and taking part this year.”

The packed programme includes options to explore Bristol’s vibrant street art culture, take part in a buggy fit sessions or embark on longer rambles through the city’s parks and green spaces.

The festival launch on Thursday, April 27, will also see the launch of a challenge to see if people in Bristol can get more active by walking a mile a day.

To help people set off on the right foot, children from local schools and members of the public will be invited to walk around College Green five times – the equivalent distance to walking a mile – on the day.

This will kick off an online campaign that people can sign up to if they want to participate in the challenge.
