Rovers have permission to appeal over stadium

By Louis Emanuel  Wednesday Nov 11, 2015

Bristol Rovers have been granted leave to appeal against the decision which all but destroyed plans for a news stadium.

A high court judge sided with Sainsbury’s earlier this year in a row over whether the supermarket were obliged to buy the existing Memorial Ground.

Rovers must sell the current ground to raise the funds for the new £40 million stadium in Stoke Gifford.

But now the club have had their request to challenge the decision at a trial in the Court of Appeal granted, according to chairman Nick Higgs.

“Everyone at the club is very pleased that the Court of Appeal has accepted our arguments and we are expecting to hear a date soon,” he said.

A date for the trial has not yet been set.
