Science comes to the pub in Bristol
Bars in Bristol are leading the way in a nationwide festival of pub science events aimed at making science accessible.
The founders of Pint of Science said Bristol has the highest number of tickets on sale outside London due to high demand on the back of last year’s success.
The festival will see scientists gather at six bars in the city later this month where they will attempt to bring their work to life through a series of talks.
is needed now More than ever
The Hole in the Wall, Rise, Hen and Chicken, The Hop House, Attic Bar and The Greenbank are all hosting events between May18-20.
Medical science, climate change, artificial intelligence and the power of high-intensity sound all come under the spotlight at talks across the three days.
“Bristol has one of the highest number of tickets available in all the 12 cities where the festival is taking place this year,” said Praveen Paul, co-founder of Pint of Science
“Last year was our first in Bristol and it was a great success for us,” she added.
She described the festival as the “Glastonbury of science”, adding that its popularity has grown since it began three years ago.
She added: “This is all about getting their [scientists] research out of the lab and explain what they are doing and why.
“Only certain science gets into the mainstream and it is often distorted by the media. The message often gets changed. But here is a chance to tell what is going on directly to whoever wants to hear it.”
She said the talks would be as interactive and inclusive as possible and urged anyone interested to visit the festival’s website.
