Sculpture of Black Lives Matter protester appears on Colston plinth
The plinth where Edward Colston’s statue once stood was replaced on Wednesday morning, with a sculpture of one of the protesters who pulled the monument down on Sunday, July 7 2020.
Made of resin and steel, the sculpture of Jen Reid was created by artist Marc Quinn was installed just before 5am and installed by ten people.
Reid had stood on top of the empty plinth after the statue was toppled and Quinn worked with Reid for two weeks to create the artwork.

Quinn has not had permission to install the piece, but, as of 8.30am, it has still not been removed.
The artist has said that the artwork would be difficult to move from the plinth, but it is possible. Bristol City Council and police will likely face questions about how to respond.
The sculpture, named A Surge of Power (Jen Reid) 2020, replaces the statue of Edward Colston, which was toppled and pushed into the Bristol Harbour in June , before being retrieved by the council and being restored.
