Searching for the Stokes Croft mystery girl

By Meena Alexander  Monday Oct 5, 2015

Bristol photographer Jon Craig is on the hunt for a mystery subject, captured by his camera in an unlikely setting during the Stokes Croft riots more than four years ago.

Whilst documenting the riots in April 2011 Jon was caught up in a “storm of glass”, resulting in an injury that meant he had to be guarded by police and retreat to a nearby alleyway.

Emerging when the situation had calmed down, Jon describes a scene of “debris everywhere, with loads of people just sitting around. As I looked down the road I saw an angelic looking woman walking into the light, and she just seemed so peaceful after all the chaos.”

Jon managed to capture the moment, and now he is looking to track down the unnamed woman in the picture.

“I just think it would be nice to track her down and send her the print if she wants it,” says Jon. “It was just one of those right-place-right-time moments.”

If you know who the woman in the picture is, get in touch with Jon on Twitter @JonCraig_Photos. For more information, visit www.joncraig.co.uk/home.

The photo is one of several prints currently on show at an exhibition at Room 212.
