‘What do you see?’ – Bristol charity’s portrayal of modern day slavery
Modern slavery takes men, women and children and makes them invisible.
This is the chilling message of a video produced by Easton-based charity Unchosen who have granted Bristol24/7 partnership rights to share the footage.
Directed by a Bafta award-winning animator Sally Arthur, sound designed by the Emmy-award winning Matt Coster, and voiced by Paul McGann, the video provides a powerful insight into a problem that is rife, yet largely hidden.
is needed now More than ever
Unchosen, an anti-slavery charity that uses the power of film to tell people about the realities of modern slavery in the UK, is sharing the film on Anti-Slavery Day 2017.
“It’s all about raising awareness within our communities, because currently it’s hidden within them,” says the charity’s Ellis Williams.
“People like NHS staff and other frontline workers especially are likely to come into contact with it, yet even some of these people do not understand what modern day slavery is. This is something that is hidden right next to your home.
“Forced labour and sexual exploitation are the two biggest in this country.”

The charity’s prevention project, Stay Safe from Slavery, targets some of the most vulnerable groups – homeless people, young people in care and care leavers and refugees and asylum seekers – in a bid to stop the crime before it takes place.
Police urge anyone who suspects trafficking or slavery to call the non-emergency number on 101. More information can be found their website.
Alternatively, call Bristol-based charity Unseen’s Modern Slavery Helpline, which serves as a safe, 24-hour contact point, on 08000 121 700.
