Pro-Palestine march in Bristol sees hundreds attend

By Mia Vines Booth  Saturday Jan 20, 2024

Hundreds of pro-Palestine supporters marched through Bristol on Saturday in the sixth rally in the city since the Israel-Gaza war began in October last year.

People gathered at Shahjalal Jame Mosque in Eastville before marching to Castle Park, where more speeches were held.

Some members of the public shouted out their windows words of support, while others called the march “despicable” and “disgusting”.

At a speech before the march began, a member of Shahjalal Jame mosque said “Muslims are afraid to speak out” in fear they will be arrested.

“Israel is smashing up toy stores, they are smashing up cemeteries, they are blowing up mosques, and no one is covering it.”

On Thursday, around 60 protesters gathered outside Elbit arms factory in Aztec West on the outskirts of Bristol and attempted to shut it down. Four protesters were arrested.
