Smoking cake helps celebrate SS Great Britain’s 180th birthday
The SS Great Britain and the Great British Bake Off came together to celebrate the 180th anniversary of Brunel’s world famous steamship.
Giuseppe Dell’Anno, who won GBBO in 2021, was the special guest at the event to mark the boat’s birthday.
A cake version of the SS Great Britain had been made by Occasion Cakes in Bedminster for the occasion and using some culinary magic, the Italian engineer and baker made steam from dry ice come out of its miniature funnel.

When she was launched in 1843, the SS Great Britain was called “the greatest experiment since the creation”.
Two new attractions were also launched on the 180th birthday: a Birthday Banquet Blunder trail and a pair of AR binoculars enabling visitors to see the ship on the day of her launch.
